just been reading sam cowards notes.I had no idea that there was a keen phtogropher in our midst.I already knew that ricky dimarco took photos, did drawings etc(look on his web sight)while we did different art subjects, such as "pop art" and drawing each other.I must say I was crap at drawing, but it was fun.As for the photos Sam,I was sorry to read that they were destroyed,it would have been great to look at them.As for "Barking"well,it is a mad place but I work in the area part time.thats it for now, until I find something else to chat about

I notice a lot to correspondence from John Timms. I may be able to help with some of your requests John. As former pupils will remember I was a budding young photographer back then and to this day can often be found lying in the long grass with an old box & browneye slung around my neck.
My subject of choice at school was the sky, that vast expanse of nothing above our heads.
Some of my fellow students took me for an eccentric nut job, but I persisted and though detrimental to my education, after many years I had amassed a fine collection of images.
Unfortunately my father, (thinking that I had hundreds of copies of the same picture), emptied my room one day and burned the lot. I therefore cannot personally help with any of your requests for pictures of life around school, but as you can see I am a dab hand with photo shop.
I found this picture of ‘huts’ featuring some character playing hand ball and thought that if I cleverly attached Brother Baylor’s head on his body it may stir some old memories for you. The two fellows in the background could be strolling up the path to lessons don’t you think? Even their uniform is the right colour, just missing the braid.
I have no pictures of the dinner hall, though Bro Hastings reaction had a pupil produced a camera during lunch intrigues me no end.
Lessons I remember but a few. There weres English and Maths, another where we studied the Russian Revulsion and Geography of course, (couldn’t get home without that one). Then there was that room where we used to burn things and give other kids electrical shocks. There were a couple of teachers who talked really weird, (I never understood what they were on about), and of course Art. I liked the red paint best, didn’t it look bizarre in the mirror?
Bro Duignan must be about 90 so I guess he doesn’t look that bad, we buried my dad 3 years ago and he was 87 then. He will be 90 this year, but I’m not sure he looks as well as Bro Duignan does.
That must have been a revelation for you reading the account of a fellow pupil being abused and realising after all these years that what was poking you in the science cupboard wasn’t Bro Baylor’s pencil… Sex education was pretty much non existent at Scotus, hence the confusion eh,
I remember a holiday in Cornwall, learning to windsurf on a calm day. A young lady paddled past in a canoe and offered to ‘blow me’. For years I thought her an idiot, as I had at least 7 meters of sail up, then a lad at the pub told me about his experience and well I’ll leave it at that…….
Let me know next time they let you out and I’ll try and run away at the same time, maybe we could meet up. I see you live in ‘Barking’ what a coincidence.
Best of luck Sam

Hi Andrew, I think I was in the same class with you along with Ming Chong, did you have a restaurant near Haymarket? If you are the same one of the highlights of the school were the football games we had, enjoyed those more than the rugby.
Good to hear from you.

Those were the days. My brother, Peter, and I attended school in the class of 80 and 81 respectively.
I no longer live in Edinburgh, however, my parents, are still staying in Corstorphine, whilst my brother is not so far out of town.
Congratulations to Lindsay and Maurice for keeping such a great site together. It's most enjoyable just flicking through the list of guest and FPs names to see who I may recognise. Only a few....but I hope to catch the next reunion.....
