 School News

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vince Delicato (1961-1963), following a massive heart attack while on holiday in Italy. Condolences have been offered to the family.

Change of e-mail address- David Pia.

Recent correspondence received from:- Mark Tobin Moore, in the U.S.of A.; Ian Adam, in Andorra; Nicholas Connacher( Fr Giles); Dermod O’Malley;

In the last month in the local Edinburgh Evening News there were articles about Ricky Demarco and his association with the Arts Festival since it started in 1947, celebrations for Tim Maguire celebrating completing 1000 marriage services as a humanist celebrant, and pictures of him presenting a cheque to SANDS charity. In another picture, the full council of Linlithgow were parading in full regalia in the town in 1969. This is of interest to us as in the picture is Fergie Byrne, our maths teacher(on extreme right). He was the Provost.   Sadly, there was also a report on an abuse case in the High Court in Glasgow concerning St. Ninian’s school, Falkland, which was the other Christian Brothers school in Scotland. The articles have been sent to Maurice Dougan, to include them on the website.

We recently received a brochure for the John Duns Scotus Festival 2016 from Father John Robinson, whose father, Jack, was in charge of looking after the grounds and the fabric of the buildings for the school. The event takes place from Sat. Sept. 17 to Tues. Nov. 8 in Duns For further information, contact www.dunsscotus2016.com

Dave Milligan writes:-
My inimitable friend Mike Maran is returning to the Edinburgh Fringe for the last time this August.Mike has been writing and performing new shows at The Fringe since 1977 and this year he bids farewell to the Fringe with three productions in Valvona & Crolla:
Week 1. ‘A Funny Valentine’ – the life and music of Chet Baker with Colin Steele (trumpet) and Fraser Urquhart (piano).
Week 2. ‘John Muir: Rhapsody in Green.’ – based on the writings of the great Scottish environmentalist.
Week 3. ‘A Divine Comedy.’ Mike's adaptation of Dante’s masterpiece.
The final performance of ‘A Divine Comedy’ at 12.30pm in Valvona & Crolla on August 27th will be his last performance on The Fringe.
If you only see one show this year, make it these three. If you can’t make it to see all three shows, then go and see two of them. If you can’t make it to two of them, then go and see all three.
You’d be crazy to miss it!

This is Mike Maran’s performances at the Festival over 39 years. Well done, Mike.

John Barry reported that he met Aidan Bremner on John’s holiday in Portugal, and found him fit and well, and that he was just like at school.

Tom McEwan bumped into a few friends at the Festival, being a multitude of Bartholomews and Angelo Lannie. Tom is performing his last two gigs at the festival. He is at Orwell Terrace, near Haymarket at 10.00pm on Tuesday 16th, and Wednesday 17th August. You can find recordingsof the first two on Periscope - search for T.G. McEwan – and detailsfor the others below. No Dark Nights though.

Why not help an old troubadour sail gracefully into the sunset by visiting his shows.
