It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Eddy Balls (Kowalski) MacDonald (1962-1968), who lost his great battle. Condolences have been offered to the family. According to our records, Eddy is the 100 FP to pass away. We list below a full list of our deceased members, and pray for the repose of their souls. If you know of any more could you please advise the editor.

Richard Demarco wrote the following:-

I most appreciate having your latest news bulletin on the lives of Scotus Academy former pupils. I wonder if you can let everyone know that I have been honoured with an exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. The title is very simple: "Richard Demarco and Joseph Beuys: A Unique Partnership". This exhibition will begin on 30 July 2016 and will close on 16 October 2016. It will be undoubtedly an historic exhibition; and, to a great extent, dependent on the Demarco European Art Foundation archive which contains an important section devoted to my years at Scotus Academy as art master from 1957 to 1967. I would like to make sure that every member of the Scotus Academy FP Association receives an invitation.

Yours ever,

Richard Demarco

P.S. There will be a programme of symposia and lectures and I will be giving a lecture of the importance of my work as a teacher beginning at Scotus and ending at Kingston University in London when I was appointed Professor of European Cultural Studies.

Gordon McCready’s widow wrote asking if any of the photos in the Gallery were of Gordon. Is anyone able to help?

Derek Massarella advised of the following:-

Just a short note to let you know that the second, digital, version of my book A World Elsewhere, published by Yale University Press, has just come out and is available from, amongst other sites, Amazon:

A World Elsewhere: Europe's Encounters with Japan in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries

I'm sure the lads will find it a jolly good read!

Otherwise, all is well. I'll continue teaching until I retire at 70. It keeps one up to speed, and contact with the young...well, it keeps one young!
All best,
Derek

We have had a suggestion that FPs should send in positive information about themselves to share with their peers. What do you think? We await any articles.
The suggested question is:-

“What positive information about yourself with regard to achievements of which you are most proud would you like to share with colleagues leaving out wife and family comments ?

A friend in Edinburgh recently showed us an article about Ricky Ford. In it the story said that Ricky, who should be sitting with his feet up, has recently won the over 65 Welsh Squash title, is the Welsh over 65 squash captain. More importantly to the editorial staff, we understand that he is a member of Royal Porthcawl, with a decent handicap. Holidays beckon. What medication does he take? We all need some.
