Scotian News March 2014 Issue 109 Congratulations to the following Former Pupils who have reached milestone birthdays in March:- 70 James Hudson; Mike Dougall; 65 Leo Doherty; John Strathie; John Duncan; Wyndham Smith; Terrance Cooper; Charles Packham; 60 Andrew Blackwood; Kevin Thomson; 50 John DiCiacca; Duncan Robertson; Kevin Robertson; David Gardner; School NewsWe regret having to announce the deaths of Laurence Cecchini’s mother, the mother of David, Kevin, Martin, Simon, and Aidan Pia, and Sister Margaret Nagel, the sister of Mike Nagel. Sister Nagel was educated at Sacred Heart Convent, Craiglockhart, Edinburgh. She started as a teacher at St David’s, Pilton, Edinburgh, then became an Ursaline sister, and served for many years in the Edinburgh parish of St John Ogilvie’s. Latterly, she was in residence at the Mother house in Swansea. Condolences have been offered to all families. We have recently made contact with Michael Morrison (1958-1963). It may be of interest to the many FPs who played for Edinburgh Wanderers that Michael’s father was captain of the 1931-1932 team. We have made Facebook contact with Gianpaulo LaGreca. Change of e-mail address:- Mike Dougall. Congratulations to Brian & Una Macnamara on celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. They now live in Canada, but are snowbirds in Winter, where the fly to Florida for the Winter. A copy of the notice of the anniversary in the paper can be seen on the website. He also sent a photo of the wedding day, and in the photo was another FP, Mike Nugent. Two great events took place in Edinburgh last month. The first was the celebration of 80years of trading by Valvona & Crolla. The managing director is Philip Contini, and his wife, Mary, is the sister of Cesidio, Kevin, Paul, Ernest, and John DiCiacca. Copies of the newspaper report and pictures are on the website. Ricky Demarco received the Citizen of the Year Award for 2013 from the City of Edinburgh. It was presented by the Lord Provost to Ricky. Previous winners are:- Ian Rankin; J K Rowling; Sir Chris Hoy; George Kerr; Prof Peter Higgs; and Dame Elizabeth Blackadder; Copies of the invitations, newspaper articles, and various speeches are on the website. In Ricky’s speech, he mentions the school. Andrew Lindsay was recently photographed at the last Hearts- Hibs game. He supports neither, but was sitting beside Rod Petrie, the Hibs Chairman, and two of your editor’s golfing friends.
